Dress to Blouse Transformation

Updated: Oct 2, 2020

Another item waiting for its time to shine in my wardrobe, holding out hope every time I open the doors, and failing to be picked out. Time to change that! I had high hopes for this dress which I believe was under £10 in a sale when I bought it over a year ago, but has only been worn once due to the fit. So this weekend I finally gave it the transformation it deserved. Enjoy! I hope your eyes don't go too crazy...

1. I put a pin on the side where I wanted the new hemline to sit, then flattened out the dress and cut about an inch below that to allow for the folded over seam.

2. I folded over the raw edge twice and sewed 1cm in from the edge, using the sewing machine guide.

3. It took quite a while to work out what to do with the waist belt strap, but after much testing, I cut it in half and positioned one on one side of the neckline, folding over at an angle. I made sure it was lying flat, and pinned it in place before sewing it down (not including the side hanging over the front).

4. Doing exactly the same on the other side took some careful eyeing-up before sewing down!

5. The straps were left hanging so that I could tie them how I wanted each time I wear the blouse, but for now they are tied into this low hanging bow.
