Or in other words - the 'lazy daisy'! If you've ever wanted to do some basic embroidery, here's a quick step-by-step guide to creating this delicate little flower, which you can make up in any size you like.
1. Get yourself an embroidery hoop - this 17cm diameter one is excellent, and was only a few pounds from John Lewis!
2. If you would like to make yours in a perfect circle (and your fabric isn't too expensive to lightly draw on!) then you can draw around something small and round in pencil.
3. Thread your needle with 2 strands of embroidery thread, and poke the needle up through the centre of the circle.
4. Then put it back through the centre so you create a loop. Bring the needle up through a point on the edge of the circle.
5. Pull the thread gently through the loop you created and pull until you have created a small petal. You can use your other hand to gently guide the loop downwards, and make sure not to pull too tightly or the petal will end up becoming a taught straight line!
6. To keep the top of the petal in place, create a little stitch over it by poking the needle just above it. Et voilà! Now do exactly the same for the rest of the flower.
They become quite addictive to make, and I find it to be a very therapeutic activity in the evenings. You can experiment with different sizes, fabrics and even see how they might look on a plain T-shirt.
