You know I love a good clothing transformation, but I also love not having to spend on new fabric when I already have some waiting for me, often from clothes I don't want to wear anymore!
For this beautifully chic design Tilly and the Buttons Megan Dress, which I finally got round to making from Tilly's book 'Love at First Stitch', I already had in mind to split the fabrics for the top and bottom. The top is made from a relatively cheap skirt I picked up a couple of years ago but never really got round to wearing, and is a scuba-type-fabric that was often a little fiddly to stop it from stretching when sewing, but made for the perfect structure in the dress silhouette. What's the skirt section made from you ask? Curtain lining! This was a hand-me-down fabric from a friend that I was very grateful to have as a lining material (and many of my family members will recognise it from the inside of their fabric masks). I was a little tentative at first, especially as it wasn't the most opaque fabric, but the other two options of fabric I had weren't really viable. Turns out, the colour combination of these actually works rather nicely!
