New Year, New Crafty You

Updated: Oct 1, 2020

How are your New Year resolutions going? You may think this is an odd time in January to write such a post, but I actually think the opposite. Our radical and not-all-that-realistic resolutions may have been and gone by now, and we might feel a bit disappointed and even flat halfway through January.

Here’s my solution - pick up some coloured paper, some knitting needles or some ribbon, and escape into your new hobby!

As an extra bonus, there’s no need to spend ages making it absolutely perfect and Instagram-able (coming from me...), as at end of the day, it’s all for you. A method of escapism, a way to relax and a chance to put your ideas and creativity into something worthwhile. But of course if it is to be a gift, then by all means spend some extra time putting on the finishing touches!

One thing I’ve decided to tackle head on, which may come as a surprise, is crochet. I never learned! Knitting has always been my go to, so I can’t wait to start on this new method of creating something beautiful out of simply a ball (or two) of wool. Perhaps I should go and spend some time and money in a haberdashery now – Mmmhmm.

Also this New Year, despite being a tidy person, my craft bits and pieces have always been scattered in different bags, so I’ve created a clear space for them to have everything in one place and sorted through what I have. I don’t tend to throw any bits away that I could use again, and of course I like to at least try and keep my environmental hat on, but I know I have scrap bits that have never seen the light of day in the last ten years and will never use. So a clear up has really put me in the mood for some crafting.

i would love to say have a read through my previous posts for some inspiration, but hopefully you're already doing that if you

‘New Year, new you’ can be one of the most cliché and eye-rolling phrases, but when it’s taking on a new hobby with so many wonderful benefits, I don’t mind it so much…
