The Perfect Guinea Pig Birthday Party

Updated: Oct 1, 2020

I imagine people are split into two camps when it comes to their pet’s birthday – there are the regular people who question those that make their pets wear party hats, and there are those who go all out. Well, I have now discovered that I am in the second camp – why not have some fun?

It has to be said at the outset that smaller animals are often not tame pets, so they can certainly be a handful when trying to get a nice picture! But anywho, you will need:

- Party hats of a suitable size (easily made from card, some jazzy wrapping paper and a pompom)

- A birthday banner

- Some sort of decoration (bunting, streamers, etc.)

- A birthday present

- Don't forget some foodie treats! Petsathome are always a good go-to

The present itself was quite a task, but was definitely worth it. My boyfriend and I decided to upgrade the guinea pigs’ run, and create a bigger frame that could be easily folded away. It will require a lid, but that will come another weekend!

We dug out some old garden fence trellis to cut down and use as the frame, and got to work on attaching chicken wire to the outside after sanding the wood down. This definitely needs some garden gloves if using old materials! We made sure to keep it as secure as possible by hammering in short nails at regular intervals, then attached a short side to a longer side with two hinges. We debated what the best method would be to easily fit the two L-shapes together, and eventually settled on two hooks each corner.

The guineas perhaps weren’t too keen on their party hats, but they are only 1 years old after all. But they loved their birthday green pepper! So the question is, how do you celebrate your pet’s birthday?
